We are always eager to hear new voices on the subject of diversity and multiculturalism. If you are a PLAYWRIGHT, we are currently accepting original one-act play (short and long) submissions for THE GREEN ROON, our annual festival of staged readings featuring original plays that portray social diversity from various cultural perspectives. Plays submitted will be considered for presentation at our annual summer reading series.

Eτήσιος Λογοτεχνικός Διαγωνισμός στην Αυστραλία

Ο Ελληνο-αυστραλιανός Πολιτιστικός Σύνδεσμος συνεχίζει την δημιουργική δράση για την προώθηση της ελληνικής λογοτεχνίας και πολιτισμού στους Αντίποδες και την προώθηση της ελληνομάθειας γενικότερα.
Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, ο Σύνδεσμος διοργανώνει τον ετήσιο Λογοτεχνικό Διαγωνισμό του.
Ο Διαγωνισμός καλύπτει τις κατηγορίες: ποίηση, διήγημα και μονόπρακτο θεατρικό έργο.
Όροι συμμετοχής: * Ένα έργο για κάθε κατηγορία. * Τα έργα που θα υποβληθούν θα πρέπει να είναι αυθεντικά και ανέκδοτα και να μην έχουν δοθεί σε άλλα έντυπα για δημοσίευση. * Οι συμμετοχές στο Διαγωνισμό μπορεί να είναι στην ελληνική ή την αγγλική γλώσσα και θα αξιολογηθούν χωριστά για την κάθε γλώσσα. * Μόνο ένα έργο μπορεί να υποβληθεί για κάθε μια από τις τρεις κατηγορίες και γλώσσες. * Ανώτατα όρια μήκους: Ποιήματα: 100 στίχοι (γραμμές), Διηγήματα: 2000 λέξεις, Μονόπρακτο: 20-30 λεπτά (διάρκεια). * Για κάθε έργο θα αποστέλλονται τέσσερα αντίτυπα τα οποία δεν επιστρέφονται. * Στο κάθε έργο θα αναγράφεται μόνο το ψευδώνυμο, το οποίο πρέπει να είναι το ίδιο για όλα τα έργα που υποβάλλονται από το ίδιο πρόσωπο. Σε εσώκλειστο φάκελο θα δίνονται τα ακόλουθα στοιχεία: Τίτλος έργου/έργων που υποβλήθηκαν, ψευδώνυμο, ονοματεπώνυμο, διεύθυνση, τηλέφωνο και e-mail αν υπάρχει.
Τα αποτελέσματα του Διαγωνισμού θα ανακοινωθούν σε ειδική εκδήλωση τον Οκτώβριο 2012 και για τα βραβευμένα έργα θα απονεμηθούν αναμνηστικά διπλώματα. Τα έργα που θα πάρουν το πρώτο Βραβείο στην κάθε κατηγορία και στην καθεμιά από τις δύο γλώσσες θα δημοσιευθούν στο περιοδικό του Πολιτιστικού Συνδέσμου «Αντίποδες», τεύχος 58, 2012, που θα κυκλοφορήσει την ημέρα της απονομής των Βραβείων. Οι συμμετοχές του διαγωνισμού πρέπει να υποβληθούν το αργότερο μέχρι τις 8 Ιουνίου 2012.

Any Port in a Storm

All submissions to the festival should reflect the festival’s title theme, and should be set in a port. The port should be literal. The storm doesn’t have to be. Additionally, all submissions are required to use the following first and final lines of dialogue:
first line: «Is it what you expected?» final line: «Leave it behind.»

7th Annual Humble Play: New Play Festival

The Corporation for the Performing Arts (CPA), The Brick Monkey Theater Ensemble, and ARTS/West are pleased to invite submissions from adventurous playwrights to participate in our 7th Annual Humble Play: New Play Festival of Appalachian Ohio.

Acknowledging gifted writers with new plays that speak to a diverse audience, ARTS/West will open its doors for these new works in October 2012.

PARTICIPATION We are seeking plays (10 minute, one-acts, full-length) that will highlight the work of playwrights from across the nation and will, in turn, highlight the actors and directors of our Appalachia Region of Southeastern Ohio through play development/production in our area, at the ARTS/West facility during the festival.

A script committee will review each play submitted. Be concise and clear in your application; the committee is interested in your evaluation of the work you are submitting, which is where you impress.

New multi-media theatre company seeking 10-minute plays

New multi-media theatre company seeking 10-minute plays for their experimental workshop process. They will be professionally recorded as dramatic readings. These plays will go through a workshop process online and then they will have the opportunity for a full staging at our annual Short One-Act Festival.
We are also looking for short radio plays for full recording production. This includes all sound effects, etc to give listeners a full radio play experience.

Forward Theater Company Announces Call for Submissions Playwrights Are Asked to Write about “Soul Food”

Madison, WI – Forward Theater Company is asking authors to wax poetic about food – anything from making chocolate cookies for the first time, to unearthing a coveted secret family recipe, to a dinner party gone terribly wrong.Playwrights from across the country are invited to contribute to the company’s second monologue festival, “Soul Food,” which will be presented on November 9-11 at Overture Center. With original work by both established and up-and-coming playwrights, Forward will be assembling an engaging evening of comedy and drama that examines our relationships with comfort food, fast food, ethnic specialties, fine dining, and everything in between.

“Everyone’s got a favorite dessert, a coveted midnight snack, a go-to take-out order after a stressful day, or a recipe that reminds them of home,” said Kimberly Megna Yarnall, Forward Theater advisory company member and one of the organizers of the festival. “Food is inextricably linked with first dates in restaurants, memories of summer picnics, tailgating before the big game, and holidays at grandma’s house. I’m sure it will be the basis for a lot of great pieces.”

Artistic Director Jennifer Uphoff Gray added, “When Forward was established, one of the things we wanted to do was promote the development of new plays. This is a great way to work one-on-one with a wide variety of playwrights and get to know their writing styles.”

This event follows up Forward’s first monologue festival, which focused on monologues on the theme “The Love That Changed My Life,” and featured new work from Wisconsin writers, emerging playwrights from across the country, and more established playwrights such as Christopher Durang, Beth Henley, and Connie Congdon. Communications Director Gwen Rice explained, “The festival in 2010 was a huge success, both artistically and at the box office – we added performances and sold out every show. We’re very excited to challenge writers, directors, and actors with a new batch of plays themed around food experiences and obsessions.”

Playwrights are asked to send their previously unproduced, original monologues on the theme, “Soul Food.” to grice@forwardtheater.com. (There is no entry fee for the first two submissions from each author.) Scripts should be ten minutes long or less, and require minimal sets, props, and costumes. Submissions will be accepted until July 1 and the winners will be announced on or before October 1, 2012. Each winning playwright will receive two complimentary tickets to the opening night performance.

24 Hour Plays Athens

Συγγραφείς, σκηνοθέτες, ηθοποιοί σε 24 ώρες γράφουν, σκηνοθετούν και ερμηνεύουν πρωτότυπα θεατρικά έργα σε μια ενιαία παράσταση 90 λεπτών. Το γνωστό από το Broadway της Νέας Υόρκης «THE 24 HOUR PLAYS» θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Θέατρο Τζένη Καρέζη, την Τρίτη 3 Απριλίου και τ…ην Τρίτη 10 Απριλίου 2012 και θα αποδείξει ότι όλα μπορούν να γίνουν μέσα σε 24 ώρες, αρκεί να το τολμήσεις! Η Λυκόφως, μετά την πρώτη εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένη καλλιτεχνικά και εμπορικά διοργάνωση στο Χώρα το 2010, επανέρχεται ακόμα πιο δυναμικά και παρουσιάζει ένα πρωτότυπο θέαμα που λάτρεψαν συντελεστές και κοινό. Η διαδικασία ξεκινάει από το βράδυ της προηγούμενης μέρας. Συγκεκριμένα, τη Δευτέρα 2 Απριλίου και τη Δευτέρα 9 Απριλίου, 21:00 – 22:00 θα γίνει στο θέατρο η συνάντηση όλων των συντελεστών, που θα λάβουν μέρος. Κάθε ηθοποιός θα φέρει ένα αντικείμενο και ένα κοστούμι μαζί του, οι συγγραφείς θα εμπνευστούν και θα επιλέξουν τους ηθοποιούς, για τους οποίους θα γράψουν το θεατρικό έργο τους. Από εδώ και πέρα οι χρόνοι είναι καταιγιστικοί… Η παράδοση των κειμένων πρέπει να γίνει μέχρι τις 6 το πρωί. Οι σκηνοθέτες διαβάζουν κι επιλέγουν τα κείμενα. Οι 6 ομάδες έχουν ήδη δημιουργηθεί κι έχουν στη διάθεσή τους συνολικά 9 ώρες για να μάθουν το έργο, να το στήσουν, και να κάνουν τις απαραίτητες πρόβες. Ο χρόνος κυλά αντίστροφα, γιατί το βράδυ οι πόρτες ανοίγουν για το κοινό και παράσταση αρχίζει στις 21.00! Το 1995 στη Νέα Υόρκη, η παραγωγός Tina Fallon είχε την ιδέα να ενώσει για πρώτη φορά δημιουργικούς ανθρώπους από τον χώρο του θεάματος και να τους βάλει να δουλέψουν πειραματικά υπό χρονική πίεση. Αρχικά σκόπευε να το κάνει μία φορά, αλλά τόσα χρόνια και πάνω από 300 έργα μετά, το εγχείρημα συνεχίζεται με μεγάλη επιτυχία στη Νέα Υόρκη, το Λονδίνο, το Λος Άντζελες, το Σικάγο, τη Βόννη και την Αθήνα. Short play festival VisionFest 4: Where the image meets the stage will be presented in June of 2012. Further guidelines and timelines for the festival below:     Only original material may be submitted.     LiveWire will ONLY be accepting online submissions.     Submission should be sent via email vf4-play@livewirechicago.com. PLAY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Submissions are required to use either image, Rockets or Untitled, as inspiration. The images should not appear in the play. Submissions are open to local, regional, national and international playwrights.

• Only original material may be submitted.
• LiveWire will ONLY be accepting online submissions.
• Submission should be sent via email vf4-play@livewirechicago.com.
• Submissions should be formatted as a PDF (.pdf) or Word Doc (.doc) with the title of the play as the name of the file (i.e., My-Awesome-Play.doc).
• Do not include playwrights’ name on any of the pages in the document.
• In the body of the email, please include: Playwrights’ Name, Title of Play, Email Address, Phone Number and Current City of Residence.
• Submissions will be open February 13 through May 5. (Any submissions sent outside of these dates will be discarded.)
