Call for One-Acts by Women Playwrights

The Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company is accepting submissions of one-act plays to be performed in an evening of staged readings for our “Women’s Voices” series in March.


DETAILS
*We are only accepting original work by women playwrights.
*All plays must be production-ready, typewritten, have 1-6 characters, and must have a running time of 20 minutes or less.
*Any genre (comedy, tragedy, etc) is accepted, but the plays must have a fresh plot, sufficient conflict, and a provocative and engaging text.
*Deadline for submissions is January 31, 2012 at 10pm EST.
The Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company cannot offer royalties but can offer a production opportunity.

Scriptwriting Contest for Radio Drama

DETAILS
Rules for Scriptwriting Contest for Radio Theatre
• The script should be between 15 minutes and 25 minutes in length.
• It must be an original script, unpublished, unproduced and free of royalty and copyright restrictions.
• It must be appropriate in language and theme for a “family” audience.
• There are no limits on cast size, sound effects or settings, but keep in mind that your script should be able
to be performed with an ensemble of 6 to 12 people, and the sound will be created by a table full of gadgets,
gizmos and the vocal talent of our sound effect wizards. We use an electronic keyboard for musical
intros and outros, but we do not use pre-recorded sound effects or licensed musical recordings in our
shows.
• You can choose to write in the style of old-time radio, or you can go for something completely modern
and original. We want to shed new light on the audio drama as an entertainment form, and introduce a
new generation to the enjoyment of Theatre for the Ear.
• Up to 3 scripts may be submitted by one author.
• All scripts must be postmarked by or before February 29, 2012. Winners will be notified by April 1, 2012.
• Scripts will be judged anonymously by a panel selected by the Board of Directors of the On-the-Air Radio
Players.

How to Submit a Script:
All scripts should be typed, numbered and securely bound. The author’s name should not appear anywhere
in the manuscript except the first title page.
Please include TWO title pages: The first one will include the title, your name, address, phone number,
and email address. The second title page will have the title only.
Use a standard radio script format — see sample.
Scripts will not be returned, so save a copy for yourself!

10-minute play submissions

The Newburgh Free Academy Drama Department will be accepting 10-minute play submissions for their 2nd annual new play festival. The Newburgh Free Academy is an at-risk high school located in Hudson Valley,NY. The students will be the in charge of reading,acting,designing, directing, and producing chosen work.

DETAILS

*Only Ten Minutes (or less).
*Playwrites may submit up to two plays only.
*Must be unplublished. Plays which have had productions/workshops/ readings are okay.
*NO electronic submissions.

Eastbound Summer 2012 “XII”

Theatre seeks short one-act plays for production in July. The theme of Eastbound Summer 2012 will be “XII”. 5 finalists will receive a production of their play, and compete for the Summer Audience Award.

Guidelines
Deadline is February 17, 2012.
There is no submission fee.
There is no compensation for performance.
Playwrights will maintain all rights to their material.
Playwrights may submit more than one play.
Finalists will be notified via email unless playwright requests otherwise.
Scripts should contain a minimum of furniture, props and technical cues.
Submissions must be unpublished, original one-act plays of 10-15 pages in length, inspired by the theme “XII” or the number 12.
We prefer submissions to be completely new plays, written specifically for this event.
Please submit your script and a cover letter explaining how the theme “XII” or the number 12 inspired your work.

Submission Guidelines for CPF Productions

Specific Guidelines for submissions due by March 1st, 2012 

We will be accepting submissions of plays between 5 minutes and about 20 minutes to be performed in June 2012.  This will be our first ticketed event; it will be a full production and will take place in the theatre at the Cary Arts Center.  
Please follow all general guidelines below.
 
General Guidelines
1. Finished products only (with the exception of minor revisions for technical reasons). 
2. Submissions accepted three times a year:  June 1st/Nov 1st/March 1st.
3. All script submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of the producer, board production chair and two others (TBA).  The following criteria will be considered:  quality, content and rating (i.e. certain shows may require PG-13 or lower rating depending on venue and expected audience), length, technical complexity.  Some shows may have additional criteria which will be posted on this website and distributed via email.
4. Works submitted by June 30th will be considered for Fall Productions, by November 1st for Winter Productions, and by Feb 29th for Spring/Summer Productions. This allows the committee adequate time to review the submissions before making a selection.
5.  The play must be in Standard Format (please see the attachment below called CPF_play_formatting.pdf). 
6.  Send a pdf of your submission to the Chair of Productions, Pamela Smith at pam.smith@caryplaywrightsforum.org by the deadline for consideration.

Festival of 10 Minute Plays

Open to:   Anybody, even if you have never written a script before. You can submit a maximum of two plays but each must be submitted individually. Plays must be typewritten.  Hand written plays are not acceptable.
 
Format:   10 minutes or less in length (when read), can be any genre (comedy, tragedy, etc).  Requires a small number of characters (1 – 4) and simple production set. All plays must be original, never having been previously produced in any form.
 
Prizes:  Eight entries will be chosen to be performed on the King’s Theatre stage and a $200 prize will be presented to the first place winning playwright as determined by Theatre Nova Scotia. A $100 prize will also be awarded to the second place playwright. A People’s Choice award will be chosen by the audiences at all three performances.  The winners will receive their awards onstage at the final matinee of the Festival, June 17, 2012. 
 
Submissions: Send your play to the address below, with a non-refundable $10 entry fee
(cheques payable to Kings Theatre). Must be postmarked no later than January 12, 2012. 
 
Anonymity: Send us two envelopes, the first containing your script with the first page showing a pseudonym (not your real name) and the name of your play. Each page of the manuscript must display the name of the play and be numbered. The second envelope, sealed, should include the name of your play, your real name and contact information. Include your check in this envelope.  Scripts will not be returned but all applicants will be informed by March 2, 2012, as to which plays were selected for production.
