Open to: Anybody, even if you have never written a script before. You can submit a maximum of two plays but each must be submitted individually. Plays must be typewritten. Hand written plays are not acceptable.
Format: 10 minutes or less in length (when read), can be any genre (comedy, tragedy, etc). Requires a small number of characters (1 – 4) and simple production set. All plays must be original, never having been previously produced in any form.
Prizes: Eight entries will be chosen to be performed on the King’s Theatre stage and a $200 prize will be presented to the first place winning playwright as determined by Theatre Nova Scotia. A $100 prize will also be awarded to the second place playwright. A People’s Choice award will be chosen by the audiences at all three performances. The winners will receive their awards onstage at the final matinee of the Festival, June 17, 2012.
Submissions: Send your play to the address below, with a non-refundable $10 entry fee
(cheques payable to Kings Theatre). Must be postmarked no later than January 12, 2012.
Anonymity: Send us two envelopes, the first containing your script with the first page showing a pseudonym (not your real name) and the name of your play. Each page of the manuscript must display the name of the play and be numbered. The second envelope, sealed, should include the name of your play, your real name and contact information. Include your check in this envelope. Scripts will not be returned but all applicants will be informed by March 2, 2012, as to which plays were selected for production.
