Call for Papers
Abstract Submission Deadline: 11 December 2008
Papers reporting on new research and development in any aspect of drama are invited for the 33rd Comparative Drama Conference that will take place at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, March 26-28, 2009. Papers may be comparative across nationalities, periods and disciplines; and may deal with any issue in dramatic literature, criticism, theory, and performance, or any method of historiography, translation, or production. Papers should be 15 minutes in length and should be accessible to a multi-disciplinary audience. Scholars and artists in all languages and literatures are invited to email a 250 word abstract (with paper title, author’s name, institutional affiliation, and postal address at top left – please also include any technical requirements for your presentation such as powerpoint or slide projectors, VCR, etc. – please note, AV that is not requested with the abstract cannot be guaranteed) to Dr. Kevin Wetmore at compdram@lmu.edu by 11 December 2008. Those whose abstracts are accepted for presentation are expected to attend the conference. Abstracts will be printed in the conference program.
The Conference
The Comparative Drama Conference is an international, interdisciplinary conference founded by Dr. Karelisa Hartigan at the University of Florida in 1977. Every year, approximately 150 scholars are invited to present and discuss their work in the field of drama. The conference draws participants from both the Humanities and the Arts. The papers delivered range over the entire field of theatre research and production. Over the past 31 years the participants have come from 31 nations and all 50 states. Papers selected for presentation are assigned to a conference panel that includes other papers with related themes. Sessions are established to cover all the papers selected. Each year a distinguished theatre scholar or artist whose recent work is relevant to the conference is invited to address the participants in a plenary session. The keynote speaker for 2009 will be Professor Lizbeth Goodman, Chair of Creative Technology Innovation at the University of East London, and Found/Director of the SMARTlab Digital Media Institute: a noted scholar of gender, performance and technology.
